Europe’s largest roadside digital billboard at junction 9 on the M6 this month broadcast its final advertisement before being decommissioned by Elonex Outdoor Media, in order to make way for one of the most exciting Digital-Out-of-Home projects ever seen in the UK.
The giant digital advertising screen has been overlooking the M6 from its Wednesbury location since 2013, during which time it has broadcast thousands of advertisements, become a landmark on the approach to Birmingham from the north of England and been viewed by countless millions of commuters.
Elonex is proud to have operated the screen, one which we designed, manufactured and installed. It’s existence has allowed us to change the face of Digital-Out-of-Home advertising in the UK and be pioneers in the industry.
As well as carrying advertisements from some of the biggest brands in the world, the screen also made huge scale outdoor exposure accessible and affordable to smaller and local businesses, meaning Elonex made high impact and major audience Digital-Out-of-Home advertising available to the masses for the very first time.
That’s an achievement we will always be proud of, one which will sit well in our 30 year history of introducing new ideas and innovative, and something that we will always continue to roll out and make available across the entire Elonex Digital Network.
As they say though, ‘what goes up must come down’, and after achieving such great things dismantling the screen at junction 9 on the M6 was tinged with a little sadness.
This dismantling was a major operation of course, and special mention should be made of the team of Elonex engineers who braved the most adverse of weather conditions and worked at incredible heights throuhout a stormy January weekend to expertly remove more than 5000 square feet of LED from the site.
Whilst we congratulate our engineers, our sadness at seeing this screen come down is far out-weighed by a sense of excitement for what will replace it!
Elonex has announced it is now to construct the largest motorway facing digital billboard in the UK. An exciting project on a scale never before seen at an iconic motorway location, with the new digital billboard to be located at Spaghetti Junction on the M6.
This new giant screen will rise high above Star City at junction 6 on the M6, be highly visible to traffic travelling in both directions and be known as Star Lights.
With an iconic location, central Birmingham postcode and the ability to target even bigger audiences, Star Lights replaces the Elonex site at junction 9 of the M6 and once again brings about a new dawn in our history and opens up yet more Digital-Out-of-Home advertising opportunities to brands big and small!
