Runners completing this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon did so alongside a stunning backdrop of Elonex LED screening, which illuminated the race’s iconic finishing straight on The Mall.
The final 130 metres of the gruelling 26.2 mile journey through the capital were lined with continuous Elonex LED screening, to add to the extraordinary spectacle of what’s widely regarded as the greatest marathon in the world.
Broadcasting constantly throughout the whole of the day, the Elonex LED screening displayed revolving brand messages from race sponsors and partners, which, as well as lighting up the finishing straight for a record number of runners taking part in the race, were unmissable to the huge crowds gathered on The Mall and the millions watching on TV.
The LED screening was installed in the early hours of race day, Sunday 23rd April by a team of Elonex engineers, who were working under pressure to meet the tight deadline that existed in the overall London Marathon set up. The equipment and technology used in the LED system has all been specially designed and manufactured by Elonex, to facilitate rapid installation and de-rig when on-site at a major sporting event.
Commenting on the LED screening, Managing Director of Elonex Experiential Tony Hartland said:
“After extensive planning and test runs at our factory in Birmingham, our team of engineers were flawless during installing such a large quantity of LED when the pressure was on, it was dark and cold outside and there was no room to overrun and risk impacting on other last minute elements of the marathon set up.
“Installation was finished and the screening was operational well ahead of the allotted time frame we had to work in, and the LED simply looked stunning and was a standout feature throughout the whole of what’s always a truly inspirational day at the London Marathon.”
Elonex is a market leader in the delivery of sports stadium and major sports event digital technology, and the LED installation at this year’s London Marathon is the latest in a string of similar high profile recent projects completed across the UK by the Birmingham-based firm.
