Turkish Airlines has secured exclusive naming rights of a new temporary stand installed at Edgbaston in time for this year’s third Investec Ashes Test Match, in a major sponsorship deal delivered by Elonex.
The new stand seats 800 spectators, and its arrival means 4000 extra fans got the chance to watch England and Australia do battle for the Ashes at Edgbaston during the much anticipated Test Match.
With the series on a knife edge, the new Turkish Airlines Stand was officially unveiled shortly before the first ball was bowled in the already close to sell-out Edgbaston Test Match on Wednesday 29th July, and will remain in place for the Natwest T20 Blast Finals Day at the end of August when another bumper crowd is set to turn up at the home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club.
The sponsorship deal has been brokered by Elonex, Official LED & Technology Partner and Exclusive Sales Partner for LED advertising at Edgbaston Stadium, and provided Turkish Airlines with huge brand exposure at one of the UK’s biggest sporting events of 2015.
On the new stand itself, Turkish Airlines branding features prominently to face both the pitch and TV cameras during the games to ensure maximum promotional impact.
In addition, the sponsorship deal also sees Turkish Airlines receive extensive pitch and TV facing branding on the new pavilion at Edgbaston, whilst a series of promotional messages will run throughout match days on the Elonex digital banner screen which sits beneath the ground’s iconic scoreboard.
Outside of the playing area, Turkish Airlines branding dominates Edgbaston Stadium’s 100m perimeter fence alongside the Pershore Road, as well as being hard to miss in car park areas and on the main approach to the ground.
Commenting on the sponsorship deal Selim Ozturk, General Manager at Birmingham Airport for Turkish Airlines said:
“The Ashes is one of the UK’s most celebrated sporting events. As an airline, we see sport as a key incentive for travel and adventure. We fly to more countries than any airline thereby offering the ideal solution for travelling fans. We were very pleased to welcome an extra 4,000 cricket supporters from around the world to enjoy the match and cheer on their team. We look forward to our ongoing partnership with the ground and Elonex.”
Gareth Roberts, Commercial Director at Warwickshire CCC said:
“With such a high demand for the 3rd Investec Ashes Test here at Edgbaston it was great to get the support of such a high profile airline brand to ensure that a further 4,000 cricket fans got to see the game. I am delighted to have Turkish Airlines on board and look forward to working with them for the rest of the season.
Nick Smith, CEO at Elonex added:
“Having forged a great relationship with Turkish Airlines since they started to operate from Birmingham Airport and promote the services they provide across the Elonex digital network, we’re proud to have facilitated this major sponsorship deal at Edgbaston. We believe it’s the first time Turkish Airlines has focused on targeting an international cricket audience in Birmingham, and the extensive nature of what the sponsorship package delivers provides great scope for a huge return on investment.”
